Citizen Journalism at work…

  • April 19, 2006 at 2:31 am

So I’ve been recruited to participate in citizen media coverage of the SFIFF. Good times. The kickoff was last night with a movie gathering at Casa Arguello with old friends & new to watch Street Fight along with several dozens of other sf folks to share in the kickoff of the Film Festival. Hurray for everyone who came! Kevin Smokler who coordinated the eventJason Schultz who brought brownies (plain), Ted Rheingold, who I made take off his shoes because who knows what kind of dog stuff he stepped inSteve Rhodes, who ate my sloppy quesadillas, Nicole Lee who performed at Lap-Pop!, Josh Wolf who says I make funny faces when I say things like “Group Picture”. Enric who’s tainted my household with bringing a pc into the home. (Just kidding Enric!). Jonathan, the exroommate also came and brought good news about the other exroommate (non consynchronous) Jason who is happily outta the hospital and recovering well. Smooches Jason!

It was fun; looking forwards to checking out more films at the festival…

The online listing of the entire program are available before you figure out which theatre to park your ass at all day.

The Kabuki Theatre is totally my choice.
How excited am I to spend about 30 hours sitting on my ass.

I mean, seriously!

There are a number of films that I’m going to be doing my best to cover during the film festival. They are listed below and if you’re interested in syncing it up to your ical, google calendar, or whatnot, I’ve listed my movie choices from the Kabuki theater up and subscribable on Upcoming.org and you can go ahead and sync it up or add your own film selections/options yon there.

All About Love
A dreamy doctor falls for the transplant recipient of his dead wife’s heart. Happens all the time, of course, but rarely with such stylistic panache or lovelorn romanticism as in this delirious Hong Kong hit that doubles the trouble and drowns in tears.

Al Franken: God Spoke
Documentary veterans Chris Hegedus and Nick Doob catch liberal political satirist Al Franken in frenzied action as he races around the country on his 2004 book tour for the bestselling Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them.

Adam’s Apples
A pitch-black comedy/religious parable in which a truculent neo-Nazi ex-convict and a dementedly upbeat country priest square off amid Old Testament plagues centered on a parish apple tree.

Bashing
A controversial, fictionalized account of a young woman whose kidnapping and release in the Middle East has made her a town pariah back at home. Inspired by the experiences of several Japanese aid workers held hostage in Iraq in 2004.

Belle De Jour
In this subversive erotic fantasy cowritten by Jean-Claude Carrière and Buñuel, Catherine Deneuve plays a frigid housewife who indulges her masochistic desires by working in a Paris brothel. However, nothing is quite as it seems…

The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros
A gay pre-teen in a Manila slum causes his family of petty criminals grief when he falls in love with the handsome cop next door. This first feature transcends its indie low budget with its humor, gritty drama and charm.

The Bridge
The Bridge is a moving and unsettling exploration of the mythic beauty of the Golden Gate Bridge, the most popular suicide destination in the world, and the unfortunate souls drawn by its siren call.

Cock Byte: Masters of Machinima
Machine animation geniuses Rooster Teeth Productions, creators of the wildly popular online episodic parodies Red vs Blue and The Strangerhood, appear in person to present their greatest hits and new work, all made using the 3D graphics engines from videogames.

Domestic Dramas
This program of narrative shorts conveys the humor and tragedy that make up the most common spheres of our existence and the upheaval that results when the things we most desire refuse to come to fruition or are achieved in unexpected ways. Titles include The Light, Remain Upright!!, The Pretty Boy Project, Kitchen, Five Minutes, Mr. Welles, Love at 4 pm, and Dazed.

Drawing Lines
A dazzling collection of animated shorts guaranteed to stimulate the senses, fire up the imagination and push the boundaries of the genre. Home Delivery, The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello, 2/14, Never Live Above a Psychic, Luukkaankangas: Updated, Revisited, A Room Nearby, At the Quinte Hotel, Cosmetic Emergency, and Tales of Mere Existence.

Executive Koala
A dutiful employee with a giant koala head must contend with complex office politics while worrying that he may be responsible for his girlfriend’s death in this unforgettable genre hybrid from Japan’s leading director of meatball, off-the-wall comedies.

Friends—Lost And Found
Friends come in all shapes and sizes: orphans, Goth girls, even insects—but everyone has them and will do almost anything for them. Join us for this array of shorts selected to appeal to both young and old—and bring a friend. Recommended for ages seven and up. Titles include A Bag of Sweets, Rubber Soles, Roberto the Insect Architect, Cake, Sirah, Kylie Goldstein, All American, Emelia—The Five Year Old Goth Girl and Hide & Seek.

The Glamorous Life Of Sachiko Hanai
In this riotous amalgam of political satire, apocalyptic comedy and steamy erotica, an escort specializing in teacher-student scenarios acquires a mysterious cylinder that could cause nuclear havoc. A fervid example of the Japanese pinku eiga genre, for mature audiences only.

Gubra
This alternately comic and sad meditation on forgiveness follows the fortunes of several families, including Orked and her affluent Malay parents and the working-class Chinese family of Orked’s lost love, Jason, featured in director Ahmad’s previous film Sepet (SFIFF 2005).

The House Of Himiko
At a seaside rest home for gay men, a young woman confronts the father who once abandoned her to become proprietor of a transvestite bar. An offbeat comedy that offers a rare look at Japan’s older gay community.

Iraq in Fragments
Three tales from the new Iraq, from Sunni to Shiite to Kurd. Paying as much attention to color, light and landscape as to politics, this Sundance award-winner is like nothing we have ever seen or heard about Iraq before.

Jonestown: The Life And Death Of Peoples Temple
This chilling documentary explores the stunning rise and fall of Peoples Temple and its charismatic leader Jim Jones, who founded Jonestown in Guyana, South America, where more than 900 of his followers died in a mass “suicide” in 1978.

Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey
An intelligent, humorous and affectionate documentary about heavy metal music, its myriad forms and rabid fans. Featuring some of the genres most noted heroes, Metal attempts to dispel its stigma as the bastard stepchild of the airwaves.

Perpetual Motion
In this wry examination of adultery and history, four women meet on the eve of Chinese New Year for some mah-jongg and reminiscence, while the hostess hopes to determine which of her guests is having an affair with her husband.

Play
Heartbroken Tristán and isolated Cristina, two strangers, wander the streets of Santiago looking for love. This urban fairy tale is a lively, witty, atmospheric film about the human need to connect in the postmodern world.

A Prairie Home Companion
Garrison Keillor’s beloved radio show A Prairie Home Companion becomes a musical-comedy ensemble piece starring Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Lily Tomlin, Virginia Madsen, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly and Lindsay Lohan.

Princess Raccoon
“We are all raccoons!” Glory in the spectacular design and exuberant wackiness (plus the stunning Ziyi Zhang as the Princess) of this madcap anything-goes pop opera by Japan’s premiere film trickster.

Sa-Kwa
A deeply rewarding, delicately observant portrait of a modern young woman’s search for happiness and love, featuring an intensely physical performance by South Korea’s finest actress, Moon So-Ri.

Viva Cuba
Eleven-year-old Malú runs away from home with her best friend Jorgito on a quest to find her father in this charming, fairytale-like story that was Cuba’s candidate for the Oscars.

You Are My Sunshine
A farm worker’s ardor for a prostitute pays off when she falls in love with him, but their bliss may be short-lived when she is diagnosed with HIV in this touching, mildly erotic blend of melodrama and romantic comedy.

SXSW Mischief – Part Uno

  • March 11, 2006 at 1:48 pm

Yee Haw. I’m in Texas. Again.

* Note * I’ll come back and edit this post with correct links in a bit.
But for right now, I’m amok and gotsta getsta writing outsta before I forgetsta*

As per the usual chaos that is SXSW, the last 72 hours have been a blur.

In quick rundown before I lose more brain cells, allow me to share the following.

Thursday:
Flight out of Oakland => DFW => Austin.
Picked up by Ms. Hacker and then off to pick up Little Ms. Hacker and then off to a Target store where I am thereby convinced by the two that I must purchase something referred to as the “Perfect Panty”.

Oh-Em-Ef-Gee
They are perfect panties.

Velvet Spade with Jackson & then meeting up with Buzz, Eris, and Jason at the Shakespeare pub.

Giggling & much smack talk was shared.

Friday.
Migas for Breakfast

Guns for the afternoon.
(Yes. I shot guns)

And then the mixer with long time old friends at 219 West and then followed by the awesomeness that is Break Bread With Brad. Many pitchers of beer were shared.

I had a full house in a game of poker and I lost.
My shoes.
And hoody.
And uh…
My pants.
(Perfect panties were luckily hidden by the length of my shirt)

Damn it. I had a full fricking house.

Note to self: don’t play strip poker outside at night in a public bar.

Doubleyoo-tee-eff was I thinking.

Gracious gentleman Jeremy allowed me to have my garments back. What a sport.
=D
Buzznet shindig.
Yeeehaw.

Saturday:
This morning:
Briefly meet fellow speakers for my panel.
Then off to my panel.Cowbell in tow.
Somehow manage to maintain modicum of dignity while using the words Masturbation. Exfoliate. Asian Fetish. Blowjob. While on my panel. Not necessarily in that order nor in that context directly. Still as all silliness, I hope it was amusing.

Mid afternoon:
Mini-Nap. Lunching on fresh oranges & carrots and placing sliced zucchini that’s been chilled on my eyelids. Me likesy.

This evening.
Oh-em-gee.

More to come.

Consumption Update:
Battle Angel Alita anime volumes #8 & rebirth #1. Date Movie. New York Style Pizza. .

Weekend Update:
My Thursday evening was pretty crazy in terms of the fact that it involves the following: Eating dinner with Annie, heading into Manhatten to the Merc bar, going to a restaurant opening, stealing two cards from the deck of a cute boy named Jack playing magic tricks with a deck of cards, talking scotch with some fella named John and telling some fellow named Mark that he really needed a haircut. Then off to a club where I lost my amigos Rara and some other folks. I of course wound up losing my friends and picking up a conversation with a gorgeous french 22 year old party promoter and then hanging with a team of fellow’s on their way to the bahamas the next morning. Those gentlemen wound up taking me out for breakfast and who am I to say no to a tasty english muffin?

I got home about a half hour after my brother left for work that morning. Yeah. Fairly intense.

Friday: Sleeping in and hanging with Heath. Sadly sadly sadly, our attempts at making it to the Point Break Live show were again thwarted by being sold out. Shakes fist at the skies!

Saturday: Lunch and delicious shopping with the fantabulous Ms. Uberchick, and lengthy discussions over lipstick and boots then followed up with going to see a ridiculous show with Fran & Pei. The show is presented by Slant and titled Big D*cks, Asian Men. While I *was* expecting the night to be funny, I was not expecting as many musical numbers. This is not a bad thing. It was overall totally hilarious! And as if that didn’t make my Saturday complete, I was able to meet up with Mr. Fabulous aka. Brian Grosz.. Brian’s band The Dogs of Winter were playing at this funktastic little gallery in the basement of a bar on Bowery. The show fricking rawked and I can only refer to the sound of Brian performing as… a vicious monster made of dirty ice that you throw up on stage and give an electric guitar. It’s hotness. And then off to crash with a friend over giggles and cheer.

Sunday: Spending quality time with two of my favorite ladies and two more favorite little ladies. Rara and I became good friends while being bridesmaids our mutual friend SJ. Rara and I made a point of running upstate to go see ms SJ and her two little daughters Anna and Calla. Total cuteness overload and girly catchup talk over green tea latte’s (they taste like green tea icecream but warm and slightly less sweet). Any need for sweetness was satisfied by seeing the two little girls frolic and play.

And now?
Relaxed and chilled on my brother’s couch before I head back to Michigan for a day tomorrow and then back to SF by mid week.

I sometimes wonder if it’s a little unfair that I should feel so much joy in such a compressed amount of time. Maybe it’s karma making up for what I had to go through earlier in my life. Who am I to question?

I know that’s more of a synopsis than an analysis or thoughtful digestion of what my life and conversations have been over the last few days but I’m pooped.
When I get some downtime to go through things I’ll have many more things to share. Hold tight.

Travel Update 02.17.06

  • February 17, 2006 at 9:51 am

You know what I love about traveling this time around?

Being in chill mode. I don’t have a panicky hectic pace. I’m not in a rush to see people. I’m able to have marvelous and intimate conversations with people without the distraction of urgency or some facade of being accessible and seen in some scene.
I wake up. I decide if I’m going to get up right away or putter a bit. I putter over to the fridge and grab myself a yogurt and make myself a cup of coffee. I sit on the couch and decide to myself “no, no, i don’t quite want to put socks on yet” and sort through the ambiguous plans that I have for the day.

My brother and sister-in-law have one of those marvelous overhead showerheads that look like an alien space vessle that’s aimed at peering down at your naked body and delivering lucious warm water pressure to your head. Oh, it’s so nice.

Last night I was able to sync up with one of my favorite rockers Brian and hear all the great things that are currently going on in his life, for his band, and our own personal takes on the terror known as adulthood responsibility. He is mighty sage on a number of points and at this point in my life, if I don’t know what I want, that’s more than alright. So long as I know that I don’t know that, at least that gets me on pace to looking. Also, there’s a purpose to everything that happens in the universe. Instead of fighting with circumstance to move with and around and beyond it is a significantly less frustrating use of my resources. This is not news to me, but it’s something that has taken some time to sink in.

Additionally, I have made plans to meet up with the most mischievous Heath to go be Keanu Reeves. I mean seriously. Gracious my. That should be a hoot.

My plans for the rest of my time here are beginning to gel up, but in the spirit of taking care of myself and not pushing too hard, I’m leaving my mornings free for coffee, yogurt, and barefoot personal time.

I’m leaving Chicago tomorrow morning.
Tragic. But I’ve had just way much more fun than a single person should have in the course of a week.

Most recent highlights include:
Couching it with the cats. I think they finally admit that they like me.
Nearly finishing yet another book (An Unquiet Mind), eating even more Chicago style stuffed pizza (shaped like a heart) and hanging with the hilariously warm and cheerful Chihookah team (Steve, Brad & Boston) while knocking back some Goose Island brews and Brad’s own pale ale! Check out the podcast to hear how silly I make a fool of myself when buzzed and smoking a hookah for the first time!

Additionally, today I spent the whole afternoon with my friend ES who took me all over Chicago to make sure that I got the whole taste of the city down. This included eating a bit of Chicago Hotdog (neon relish w/ mustard. no ketchup) some Italian Beef (sandwhich dipped and wet with juice and spicy with peppers) from Big Al’s not to mention finishing off the evening at Fat Willy’s for BBQ.

Years and years ago (nearly a dozen) was the last time I was in chicago. I was interning at the time for a fledgling (and now defunct) Korean American publication (also in English) titled We-Woori. Tonight I was able to catch up and chat with that magazine’s founder, Mr. Jo and his lovely wife Mrs. Jo. Were it not for Mr. Jo, I never would have built up more confidence as a writer and would likely not be as comfortable with writing as I am today. I owe Mr. Jo a lot for having confidence and comfort in giving me a chance that summer.

My stomach is so full.
And my heart is totally overflowing. It’ll be sad leaving Chicago again but I promise it won’t be a dozen years before I’m back.

Current joy:
Isabella is purring next to my lap. Still ignoring me. But purring, And nearbye. And Tiberius is lookign at me with his pretty eyes as if I’ve done somethign mischievous and if he stares at me long enough, I’ll confess.

I must say that waking up to sunlight and reflexology treatment by a cat is one of the nicer ways to wake up:

Recap on Friday night:
Things that I forgot I did:
- Giggling so hard at Cinnamon’s snorting that I fell into the snow, and then tried to cover up for my dorkness by attempting a snow angel. In about 1/4″ of snow. Slick aren’t I?
- Kicking Andrew & Cinnamon
- Apologizing shortly afterwards
- Sitting on the bed and hug attacking them

Yup. That about sounds like me.

Satuday:
A slow start as I had both hangover and body soreness from excess walking. I mean, my knee pits hurt. Hurt! Who knew that knee pits could hurt?

Hung out with my friend Steve & muddled around town, got some chicago style stuffed pizza, through some book stores, stopped by quimby’s and then off to see Andrew perform at Subterranean for the Around the Coyote arts festival thingie. Eric Labrat was the host and it was a sporadic but varied performance night of self published writers. Yay indie DIY.

After that we were off to Grafton Pub to sip on scotch (slowly) and catch up with Phineas and Brenda. I’d read Phineas ages ago and Brenda I met at SXSW a few years back. I kissed her. I (almost always) remember people that I kiss.

Chillax, chillow, chillup.
Chicago.

There’s nothing quite like waking up slightly hung over and being slightly smug with oneself that one was able to manage to remember to charge one’s ipod and pluck out one’s contacts and wind up on a bed without having somehow managed to sprawl puddle-like on the floor, completely immobile, and heavy in body and soul from just too much gawddamn joy.

Morning folks!

Yesterday, left to my own devices I walked from Casa Huff & Cooper in the north end of town down to Lincoln Square where I rendezvoused with a long time friend/cousin via marriage at his workplace in ze Book Cellar. From there, learning that for whatever reason, my ATM card was deactivated when I tried to take some cash out to buy myself breakfast.

*calling the 1800#
Me: Hello, my atm card’s been deactivated. I wanna know why.
Bofa: Account # please…
Me: ***** – *****
Bofa: Mother’s maiden name please..
Me: ******
Bofa: And last four of your social security number
Me: ****
Bofa: Ok…
Me:Um yeah… so can you re-activate my card?
Bofa: Oh…
Me: what? you deactivated my atm card last time when i did my roadtrip. apparently too many gas fill-ups during a short period of time laid up a suspicious flag
Bofa: well actually, your atm information has been compromised
Me: say what?
Bofa: yes. it’s been compromised. we’ve sent you a letter last week with a new atm card that should have been put int he mail yesterday.
Me: But …. I’m traveling out of town for a month. I’m not going to get that.
Bofa: I’m sorry.
Me: So you can’t reactivate my card?
Bofa: No. It’s been compromised due to skimming.
Me: Say what?
Bofa: Your information has been compromised.
Me: So.. the only way I can get money is how?
Bofa: Well if you make it down to one of our branch locations
Me: Um… lady, I’m in fricking chicago. I have no cash on me. My atm isn’t kicking in, and I can’t even go get busfair or a cab. wtf. (to note. I actually did say doubleyoooteeeff)
Bofa: I can try & help yo locate our nearest branch
Me: Mother.Of.Gawd.
Bofa: Where are you right now?
Me: I’m at a fricking starbucks becase I have a gift card for them.
Bofa: You’ll have to be a little more specific.

****
After being transferred from the 1800 number to a local branch in chicago who could provide more specific directions (for which i’m actually pretty impressed that they did that) i wound up walking another 2 miles through cold chicago to belmont & racine where I finally deposited a check and got an ungodly amount of money out. Ok, it’s not that ungodly but yo, i just don’t carry around that much cash with me ever. I mean, do I look like I’m turning tricks?

Anyway:
Yes: Lengthy walk through the north side of chicago and around and back,

Followed up by hanging out at some huttenbar/huttenbrau or whatnot with my cousin and drinking spiced wine.

Then! Omg (ohemgee)
I was taken out to delightful dinner by my long lost friend ES who I haven’t seen in literally 10+ years. We were involved in an intercollegiate organization way back in the day so it was nice to catch up and see what’s up with MAASU folks at the end of the day. Cuban food at Cafe 28 is fantastically Dope! (Mojitos too!)

And then!
Off to the HopLeaf. Where I drank a few crazy beers called Kwak. I think I ordered it because I thought it was sorta Asian. Yes, I’m that weird. I’m all full of AzN PrIdE sometimes. Ordering it, you must sound like a cross between madeline khan & a duck.

Darlink. I vood like ze kvak. Yes. Ze Kvak.

It comes in a peculiar glass with a round bottom that does not stand up on the table well without your hand to hold it or a mini wooden stand with a concave divit in it to hold it. So either you have be sober enough to hold it while drinking, or it must rest carefully in it’s wooden stand. Regardless, confusing azn german duck beer. Good shit.

Gigglypuffs.
And.. um…
Yeah.

That was the end of my first full crazy marvelous day in Chicago.

So here I am, slightly hung over, in the pull out bed, drinking water, and blogging. My legs are a bit sore from yesterday’s walk, my head’s a little fuzzy around the edges, but my spirits are on redbull or something cuz them mother fuckers got wings.

I’m currently sitting on the couch with a lovely silver grey cat who is napping with her fat butt facing me.

Cinnamon & Andrew are geeking out seperatly on their own respective laptops, reviewing blogs, logs, and pictures online.

I am delighted by spending chill “regular time” with people that I don’t get to see or spend time with often enough. Simple things like listening to jazz, making fun of goofy emails, and sharing various silly blog content. We talk about scotch. And cats. And people we know. And bond films. And wikipedia. And etc.

This after an evening with Cinnamon and her lady pals playing “poker” where no shirts or panties were lost, but much wine was had, and many more giggles than that. My stomach is still full and happy from having some Surl Long Tang with my friend JB earlier today (waves hi to jb!) after he was kind enough to pick me up from the train station.

Thunks today:
Any stigma associated with train travel should be abolished. I was pleased to discover the convenience of the transportation did not exceedingly diminish or destroy the romance associated with this mode of travel that I’ve had from movies while growing up.

There’s a lovely leisure to it. Fairly relaxing. Tons of space to spread out. And a fairly reasonable a la carte selection of foodstuffs in the dining car including heinekin or coronas, hebrew national hotdogs, gardenburgers, and other sundries. A more diverse or healthy selection of food stuffs than available on planes including yogurt and fruit, juice, and milk. And did I mention how cheap the tickets were? $26 one way from Detroit to Chicago. With loads of flexibility re: changing the dates of departure or cancelling tickets with nominal penalties. Not a bad way to go when you have more time than dollars, and no manic schedule to be bound to. No wifi or powerplugs though. But that’s ok. I had enough media between naps with the ipod, and episodes of battlestar galactica.

I’m a little sleepy and it’s snowy outside. Chilly, but reasonably calm.
Snow blankets the ground making all things sparkle and clean, quiet, and still.
It’s real weather. Something that I’ve missed from spending too much time in SF where the weather goes from rainy to non rainy during the winter months.

Other things?
I think I’ve been predjudiced or unreasonably terrified to some degree of what those “next stages” in life might mean for me. Something that’s been resonated to some degree by conversations I’ve had with USG and other friends. I guess I’m not the only one who considers with some trepidation, going into that “great fade” once a person does adult things like … getting married, buying a house, having kids, etc. I’d like to believe that adulthood development does not include a lobotomy. I’m always delighted when i meet or read folks who encourage that vibe still as well.

Here’s a quick list of things that define what it’s like being back home.

* More home enhancements… not for any aesthetic continuity but again.. so that the house is easier to wipe down. (Grey marbelite counters, wood panel floors, white walls & cabinetry, light beige walls, a lawn that’s neglected …it is february after all… and black leather sofas. More fridges/freezers than people. 2 in the kitchen. 1 in the guest room (for kimchi) a meat freezer downstairs, another kimchi fridge down there, and one other fridge for… i don’t even know and I’m afraid to look)

* The thermostate set at 64. Yes. That’s 64. I’m wearing sweats all day long. It’s colder than it is outside in SF. What’s up with old people and keeping the thermostat that low?

* A floor heating pad. Trying to recreate this whole thang, my parents have a heating pad the size of a queen size bed set up on the floor. We all sit on it together, eat dinner from a low table while on it, lie on it while watching tv, and poke each other when taking family naps on there. The afore mentioned leather couch barely gets sat upon all day.

*Home cooking.
Oh.My.Goodness. So.Good.

* I’ve actually already finished one book and half way through another. It’s nice catching up with soem reading that I’ve neglected for far too long.

* Conversations/reconnections with long lost friends. Emails from a friend from College who’s getting sent off to Iraq. A fab conversation with the USG (Ultimate Straight Guy), and silly dialogue with my Dad.

Example:

While watching Korean Dramas with my Dad
Moi: What are we watching?
The Daddy: … wha? (completely engrossed)
Moi: … Dad… is that a guy?
The Daddy: … wha? (finally registering that I might be saying something to him)
Moi: … the dude with the pretty hair and two earrings…dangly even…
The Daddy: … shhhh I’m watching the terebeee
Moi: … um dad… he looks too pretty…
The Daddy: …sooo?
Moi: … if you want me to date a Korean guy, please tell me they don’t have to be that gay…
The Daddy: Shut up!
Moi: I mean seriously dad…I think he’s wearing foundation.
The Daddy: Uy!
Moi: Hmmm ok…

* Lots of cheerful naps.
Yay naps!

On Housekeeping & What not..

Happy Lunar New Year folks!

May your heart, life and home be filled with peace, laughter, and many blessings. And yeah, though the year is of the dog, I’m pretty sure it isn’t going to be as much of a bitch as last year.

In a bit of housecleaning this year I figured I’d ping you with a bit of an update.

#1. The CD that I’ve mentioned before is officially up and available for sale now.
Expect Jane, the partner in crime, to comment something about this soon.

And yes, we’ve finally gotten around to resurecting the website for the lable.
Yes it’s bare bones. More good stuff to come as we get around to it.
At the very least the cd’s will be available wherever yon you see yours trully or Jane in the bay. I promise from here on out i won’t travel anywhere with less than 3 of these on my bodily person. $15/piece. A bit more with shipping and handling if you insist but that can be accommodated. Stuff should be available on CDBaby and various other places soon enough as I’ve zipped off the cd’s last week. Wee!

#2. I’m getting ready for my next batch of travels.
Heading into michigan with digital camera (yes.. new) and mittens and hats and cowbell. Then as I mentioned before, a stint in Toronto, Chicago, and NYC.
Ping me if you want to meet up at any juncture. Times/schedules are finally in the solidifying process.

#3. Job hunting… well i’m plugging away at it. And have other various housekeeping things to manage about that as well. Bills, etc.. and all that responsible stuff. Road Trip Update : Part Seis – Finalmente

  • January 16, 2006 at 5:56 am

Location: Casa Arguello
San Francisco, CA

Miles Logged: 17433
Hours Driven: 29.5 (includes meals/nap&gassup times)
Hours listening to the Comedy radio stations on XM: 27+ (I *heart* Mitch Fatel)
States Driven Through: Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas (that damn state just goes on for fricking *ever*) New Mexico, Arizona, California
Weather Conditions: Dark=>Overcast=>Sunny=>Desert Sunny Dry=>Snow. Yes, Snow=>Chilly SFish weather minus the drizzel.
Memories: Too many to count
Rolls of film (yes film) to be developed: 5
SMS photos sent: 28
Phone calls made: 8
Number of times I referenced the exact same set of directions off of TellMe: 31

Kisses Blown to the wind: Innumerable

Prayers said: 252 Hail Mary’s within a 20 minute period of time when my car was running on fumes as I pleaded with God to make the next gas stop immediately migrate to be at the next available exit.

Bunnies inadvertantly run over: 2. Maybe 3. I cannot be held responsible for involuntary bunnyslaughter if the bunnies felt a compulsive need to fling themselves in blood sacrifice before my caffiene charged might driven car.

Dogs passed by the side of the road.. on a Benjie’esque journey to go home: 2 (So cute. A tiny grey terrier peaking out along railroad tracks to peer in at the cars of people stopped at an intersection. Hope he makes his way home. The other poor hound that I spotted an hour later, looked like he had been abandoned and needed new friends)

Overall distress on my car:
– More than effectively doubling the # of miles on my car since I left SF on January 6th.
– Totally needs a carwash, inside & out
– Some errant dallas neighbor scratches on the car that should be able to get bugged out
– The moonroof got more excercise this weekend thatn ever and is behaving a little snippety when driving & trying to close it.

Sweet Dreams: I think 1 solid very deep dream of pillows, besos, hugs, and giggles.

I am renewed.

Fricking exhausted.

But definitely renewed.
