It’s weird to me that I’m inching forwards towards 40 because I still feel like a clueless 20something most of the time but it’s true. I’m officially 37.
Which means that I can’t deny my adulthood.
But what’s really nice to realize is that the older I get, the more I appreciate the people that I hold dear in my life and their kindnesses to me over any material gift.
Maybe because this year was the first where my birthday fell on Easter too, but I felt like the sun and the positive energy in the universe today was my most favorite gift of all.
While Jason this morning went off on his bike ride and left me and Amelia to rest a little later, I had sweet dreams of my family and the warm breath of my daughter’s snore’s against my chest. Jason would later rescue a family of geese including some baby birds from being trampled by semis. I told him later “You know, Amelia would appreciate that. It’s like you’re Dora saving the little animals”.
Later in the morning as I struggled to wake up, Amelia was amok in the bedroom and pulled aside the shade to share the light across my face. She looked at me and said “Sunshine?”. The first time I’ve heard her use that word. And I thought to myself, “well, yes, you are my Sunshine.”
We spent the afternoon at friends enjoying a delightful Easter brunch including egghunt for the kids and pleasant conversation then returned home where, between the sun, the obscene number of deviled egg’s I’d consumed, and the pregnancy I desperately needed a nap. Jason ran out to get me some chocolate cake and coffee ice cream – my poison of choice for birthdays.
Amelia curled back up against me as I napped, gave me a big kiss and said “Bbho bho (kiss) Mommy, thank you thank you”.
All in all, I’d say a very nice birthday.
Thank you to all friends who texted, called, emailed and left me msgs on FB with good wishes today. I adore you all and hope you are always as happy and have a calm joy and peace in your heart as we all get older together.
For no other reason than I want to document what Amelia’s growing vocabulary is at. Since I don’t spend much time with other parents with children at the same age I’m not sure if she’s behind or ahead but it’s hard to ascertain without some sort of tally.
I will likely update and edit this list over the next few days since I don’t think I’m able to remember it all right now but I think this covers the bulk of her vocabulary so far.
