Geek Girl Collision

So I was having burgers with Jackson the other day when the fabulously geeky gal-in-the-know Nicole walked past the joint we were at.

I of course, immediately swung out to grab her to come join us.
I made her eat my fries until her order was going to be ready.

Moi: “Nicole, hurry, eat my fries.”
Nicole: “No, no, I have food coming now.”
Moi: ” No sweat, I’ll eat some of yours later but you can eat some of mine now while you wait.”
Nicole: “Ok.then, they’re pretty good…”
Moi: “Indeed. .. you know…it’s kinda like bit torrent, this peer to peer fry sharing network…”
Nicole: “Oh my god. I don’t know what’s funnier. The fact that I know what that means”
Moi: “Or the fact that I would use an analogy like that for deep-fried potato products.”

Flame war?

Oh yeah.

Flame war.

Over *blog* *documentaries*

As if the subject matter in itself, or the media production behind it wasn’t already kinda…well, self indulgently dorky.

Quote Du Jour

Henry David Thoreau

“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.”

I’m having a cranky morning.

I feel a little like this.

Gah.

Wuh Oh

Trouble comes again.

Click me.

With the audio & video being out of sync, I feel like I just popped out of a Godzilla Movie.

Now where are them damn little singing twins?

Gamera was always my favorite.

And yes, if you have Comcast for your High-Speed Internet, you can be a cheestastic dork and add video blog links from your PC (PC only I’m afraid) as well. (Warning, requires IE. but since I have more than one browser on my laptop here, it isn’t too much of a pain in the tuckus.)

I have way too much affinity for Miss ‘Nique

For like her, I like to crush the souls of the arrogant.

Well, I’m also nice to folks who need an ego snack too.

Mostly I consider myself an ego equalizer. but with lipstick. Or something.

Yeah, never mind. That totally didn’t make sense either.

Forgive me. I’m having another Monday.

I have this theory. Within one’s lifetime there is only a finite number of “Monday’s” that one must endure. As such, knowing that my current stage in life has a load of frontloaded “Mondays”, this must mean that I either wasted a bunch of Fridays-Sundays from my youth or I got a heapload of them coming at me later on.

I think I got some week long Sundays’ owed to me that I can’t wait to cash in on.

I cannot think straight today.

Instead, I think I’ll think rather swirly.

I mean, in the vein of Vin Diesel or something.

Keep clicking refresh until you wet your pants.

This Vs That.

A. The not bad way to wake up from a nap

You mumble in your sleep on the couch about wanting coffee.
Your friend walks out of the apt with your keys, and returns with said coffee.
You awake to the gentle warmth of the cup again’st your cheek.

B. The very bad way to wake up from a nap

You are seized by a menstral cramp so viscious that you put a pillow over your own face and start howling “If child labor is anything like this, then I’m fucking NEVER going to have children!”. Said menstral cramp is so violent that it apparently causes the rest of your insides to want to empty themselves as well and you are forced to bolt to the bathroom, while tripping over cords, shoes, and the occasional friend napping on your livingroom floor.

Sorry.

But there will be rarely, if ever, be any posts re: cheese sandwhiches.

Porque yo soy muy lactose intolerent.

Shall I tell you the time that 4 asian bloggers shared a hotel room at SXSW and accidentally ordered a big fucking bowl of queso in texas?

Mull on that a moment.

No; seriously.

Let’s just say that it.was.not.pretty.

Good Morning World!

Me

Originally uploaded by minjungkim.

This, if you’ve never been here before, is me.

I realize in the last few days I’ve had a lot more folks come visit this little blog than I’ve had here in a while.

Swear to goodness, I’m not a stats whore, (er maybe… but not as much as I used to be) but the response has been a little near overwhelming. I’m glad you find me funny. And not just funny looking (corny joke: my brother uses that all the time and I just turn around and call him tubby mctubolard).

So I’m working on 4 hours of sleep and had to drive an hour to a 7:30 AM meeting today. Not fun to begin with. Plus on an empty stomach, and in desperate need of coffee. The combination of that along with anxiety and taking my medication dry this morning left my insides doing hiccups. Not *me* doing hiccups, but my insides. Which pretty much just turned into dry heaving and convulsing. Have you ever felt like your stomach had accidentally created a vacume inside your gut and you heave and cough until you finally let out a unfortunately untasty acidic recap of your last evening’s meal? While driving. In traffic. Not so fun. Hurray for mints. Anyway.

The day will get better. It always does, and at least it’s sunny and gorgeous outside.

I feel the need to recap with more detail a little bit about my personal stages/lifecycle in blogging.

Per the request of some new visitors, and a general comfort level with who I am both IRL and online, I’m opening back up my archives bit by bit. Patience.

And yeah, I know, my site has loads of broken links and it doesn’t validate. I stopped dating for tech support about 2 years back and what’s a girl to do otherwise, ye know? I’m a writer not a coder.

Re: my personal step #1.
I never even knew what a blog was until I met Ernie. He and I had written monthly humor columns over at the now comatose APA webzine called iistix (pronounced too sticks).

Actually, let me backtrack:

I was involved in a number of Korean American and Asian American professional organizations and had coordinated a ski trip in Tahoe during the winter of ’98. It was a blast, and during that trip I met Ki & Chris who had just started up that zine. While hottubbing with them (Clothes on! Nothing Kinky!) I convinced those knuckleheads to give me a column. Mind you, I had absolutely no column writing experience before. I’d written short stories and poetry and been published for that, sure, but writing a regular humor piece was a new experience. Ah, bet when you’re young and snarky and care free, you have content coming out of your ears.

It wasn’t long after I started writing at iistix that Ernie joined me there with his column. We became fast friends and fed off of each other’s utter bitchy snarkiness. During our marathon friendship we’ve gone on a few roadtrips together and done loads of dinner parties, gaming geek outs, and had general mischief.

My site was originally on Homestead. Yeah, homestead. The most painful UI for posting individual pages ever. But then again it was sorta wysiwig and since I’m not a programmer/developer/designer by trade, that’s where I started and my first few posts were about monthly.

Totally hideous. Wasn’t it?

I didn’t even use Blogger until Ernie invited me to be a contestant on his game SurvivorBlog.

Steps 2-10 followed in quick form after as I met other contestants from SB1, had late night flirty convo’s with people, registered a domain, put up a webcam (that was on my amazon wishlist) won an anti-bloggie award for being most often late to work (Still true!) and the following year for being the most stalkable (True!) and then went to SXSW where I made fun of people. (I should probably confess at some point that I was also part of the Falcon Crest-esque controversy around the Bloggie Awards a few years back for being a straight chick up for the GLBT nominations under the fag hag platform. (Ernie beat me. Damn panda).

Additionally,
I told Evan Williams that 1984 called and wanted their ripped jeans back. And somewhere along the line (not at SXSW) I got video footage of Mena Trott playing a banjo while cussing violently. I am also guilty of giving Matt Mullenweg his first sip of scotch.

The last time I got this many visitors to my site I think it was for the kissing meme at sxsw last year.

So now we know the truth about blogging:

Longevity, ballsiness, snarkiness, and scotch will get you places.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget the lipstick.

So anyway, yeah… Howdy!
