Geekery Geekery.

I am finding myself ever more addicted to Wikipedia.

The breadth of knowledge and authoritative detail is extraordinary and the philosophy of global access to information is awesome. It’s practically Star Trek utopian.

Plus they’re currently about 90% to goal of their financial fundraising efforts — within the first 9 days of their campaign. Makes you wish that more public access programming when they do their fundraising drives were as successful.

Plus, where else can you find a growing compendium on niche subject matter like … fictional foods.

Because the OCD in Trip Planning is Kicking In

The geek and socialite in me is beginning to have mad sex with each other.
Yeah that sounds dirty but you know what I mean.

I’m getting ready for my upcoming trip to SXSW. where I’ll be sitting on a panel moderated by Ms. Molly.

In process for this I’ve done the following:
#1. Purchased a new toy

#2. I’ve updated and groomed my contacts list via Plaxo and my work PC.

#3. I’ve updated my Calendar including the feed from Upcoming.org onto my personal Ical.

#4. I’ve updated my new toy with all my contacts and calender by successfully exporting and syncing the data on my pretty little mac. and the new toy.

#5. I’m including among my notes my flight and car rental reservations.

So the reason why I’m telling you all this is so that you’ll buy me a beer in Texas we can coordinate good times while I’m there.

So.

If a) you have updated contact information that I should be privy to, then please update me of this.

b) If you happen to be getting in to Austin around the same time as I am and would like to share a ride in from the airport to Austin proper then please email me.

Arrive in AUSTIN TX(AUS) at 01:50PM on 3/11/05
Car rental and picking up of Ms. Glenda to occur by 2:30. I will also be doing another nightime airpport run at ~ 10:30 PM to pick up the lovely Ms. Nicole .

Could squeeze two more peeps in my renta-hoopty if you like. Feel free to hit me up for a ride. Save the cab fare for beer. That’s my motto, babykins.

OK: So have I convinced you yet that this whole notion of Geek Girl Collisions is ever so true for yours trully?

Modern Fashion

Today’s Installment of chic fashion advice for the geekery and upwardly mobile.

Step 1: Twist hair into bun and hold atop otherwise disguised, cube shaped head.
Step 2: Take 1 Letter opener (LOTR or 3 Musketeers) from the Pen & Pencil Caddy. Make sure it’s clean and that you haven’t accidentally cut cheese with it while in the office earlier in the weak. If cheese laden, lick swiftly before anyone looks.

Step 3: Stab through said bun, avoiding terribly significant parietal lobe.

Step 4: Weave through hair and hold.

Step 5: Take 1 Binder Clip (Large) and clip together end of the hair bun to letter opener. Check to make sure it is secure.

If your hair is too slippery, consider if cheese residue on the letter opener might have added appropraite texture to “grab and hold” hair in place.

Thrust out hands to your side and jut out chest as if you’re a Romanian gymnast who’s just perfected a triple back flip something or other dismount.

Shout out ” Hup Hup Hup!’

et Voila!
Instant chic office geekery fashion!

Meditation Again

From the Diaries of Leonardo Da Vinci

Among shadows of equal depth those which are nearest to the eye will
look least deep.

Which is making me hmmm and think muchly about the darkness in each person and the flawed nature of humanity, and how we are the most willing to forgive those whom we keep, or want to keep, in our inner spheres of friendship and love. But we’re all rather dark in bits and pieces now, aren’t we?

I feel Famous

Hurrah! Hurrah!

Caught a tv show tonight on International Channel called EggWest Coast.

I was on it!

Well not really, but they were doing a piece about Locus Arts which is one of my fave organizations ever here in SF and there were some pictures and shots where I was there! My roommate Jane was in Pix as well too! And so was my roommate Jason! And my exroommate Annie was interviewed for the piece as well! And then afterwards they did a piece about KoreAm Journal! Which I write for too!

And I am so full of exclamation points!

Wow. A day of exclamation points sure beats hangovers!

Weee!

That’ll be on the DVR for-e-v-e-r!

Hah.

Well,

Maybe it’s true for you.

*Shaking Head*

You know…

I did a kegstand for the first time this past weekend.
Dear moppets who may not have ever gotten sucked in to the greek system or gone to a top party school, a kegstand is when you firmly clasp the sides of a keg with your hands, someone hold’s your legs up (ideally making you vertical but that’s really, far too ambitious) and then you’re forced to drink beer straight from the spout while inverted for a count of…well, one-ups. I managed to a count of six.
Remind me how old I am?

Jayzus.

This after sparring about privatizing medicare, interest rates, and um… the “hunter gatherer” school of mack care of Drew. at a party hosted by my friend Mike and his half dozen or so roommate’s including Peter who also blogs bits. Intriguing conversations that night re: Charter School issues, financial implications of the war, on how younger men might better succeed in wooing older women, methodologies and implications on pursuing better “close rates” on dating. Hunting or being hunted. Squirrels. Or prize hunting with a head to be displayed on a lodge wall. I am not kidding. It was kinda wacky but fun.

There’s nothing quite like that half sarcastic moment the next morning where you ask yourself
“Oh fuck. Where am I. Where are my clothes. Why the hell does this keep happening to me.”

And then finding a gouge scratch on your knuckle.
And thinking to yourself: “Wait. I don’t think I remember punching *anyone* out this time.

And then reminding yourself that uh, yeah, you’re kinda a girl, too.

Post Vday.
In consideration of the odd social and emotional landmines around this holiday: let me say it’s good to drink wine with friends and eat indian pizza while giggling over how life is perfect and that joy reveals itself in every day.

Poetica Spontenaium 02.14.05

There is a longing to drown.

To be soaked and submerged
To lose breath and gasp
In a kiss so grand
And a love so much greater
Than warm summer storms
Thick with light captured in flight
from planets, moons and stars
As it falls down upon my face.

In this love
that will overflow teacups
And shatter through walls
Power bright cities
and roar in such ways
that black sand beaches
are forever marked by it

Mountains become sand
and become concrete
and become castles
and become home
and become dust
and become gardens again.
You always did love walking on wet grass
And that smell was forever on your neck.

To be loved, such as this
To know power and freedom
Release, and relenting
Revolution and change
To know God
In one’s lungs
So that every breath chokes
And every word is wet
With a whisper of wonder
and wild

To be loved such as this
To yearn quietly for that little death
That is more than just sex
But in bones and in flesh
In sinew and in soul
In lashes against lips
And in poetry spoken into the palm of your hand.

And with that breath, I would live
Be renewed every moment
Become steam and rise
To rain down on you gain.
To water that garden
That you and I have become.

Supporting the Arts

From my lovely and extraordinarily talented friend Kate.

dear all,

i am working on a very very important art interventionist project about
birth family search in corea, a project that is extremely individual,
yet having the potential of impacting adoption practices and
challenging traditional methods of search. my budget is about $7,000+
and i’ve applied to 3 funding organizations already and am in the
process of applying to several more. i also need your help.

if you are willing and able to donate to my project, your donation is
tax deductible. please ask me how!
anything above $100 will receive a limited edition poster (used in the
project) signed by me. anything over $300 will receive a poster and
dvd of the project when it’s completed: projected 2007. all will be
listed on my website and video documentary as a donator/sponsor.
even 10 bucks makes a difference, truly.

title of project:
Artistic Intervention: Search for the Missing Family in Corea

summary of project:
I propose to travel to Seoul, Corea for the purposes of working on an
artistic interventionist project that focuses on raising an awareness
of the plight of overseas adopted Coreans who return to Corea to do a
birth family search. The format will focus on a very significant action
on the date that I was born and will be documented through video,
photography, and sound becoming components of a website and a video
that will encourage, inspire and incite change.

i am also speaking about this project in april 2005 at MSU: Asian
American Women’s Conference. i am available for speaking engagements,
workshops, and conferences.

please hear my request for help and email me if you have any
questions/want to read the entire proposal or if you would like to
contribute. Or if you might know someone else who is interested,
please forward.

thanks,

kate hers
