Virtual Book Tour!
The Virtual Book Tour is on again and welcome ya’all.
It’s first off, v. cool to have friends in the literary field. They, like, make you want to, like, read and stuff. Stuff on paper even. That’s like, not attached to a power cord to the wall and stuff. Kevin’s cool like that
This latest installment includes a fabu delicious and compulsary read titled “Devil in the Details - Scenes from an Obsessive Girlhood” by Jenny Traig.
Now first off, go see what other folks are doing on the tour as they will likely have loads of fun insights into the writing process, this book in particular, and the person Jenny Traig is a regular contributor for pubs like Mcsweeny’s and The Forward as well as writing other humorous rants in Judaikitsch.
There’s a few things I’m grateful for upon completing this book: the most important being that I didn’t get a hold of this book when I was younger as it would have likely *inspired* me to new bouts of semi-insane behavior vs. warning me away from such antics.
This book was a light read, provided a couple of guffaws, and resonated with loads of my personal insecurities and idiosyncrasies that sprung up from my adolescence. Though let me make one thing absolutely clear.
The stuff that white people call crazy is what my parents would have possibly yawned.
Religious scrupulosity? My parents would have sent me to a nunnery stat. Their prayers come true!
Obsessive compulsive cleaning? They’d have set me loose on the whole house and only complained when the water bill got high.
Passive Aggressive Behavior? Typical Korean Family dynamics. Duh.
Dramatic guilt trips and psychosomatic lapses in health? Have you *ever* seen a korean drama? Someone is *ALWAYS* crying and throwing shit and beating on their breast and falling on the ground and convulsing. EVERY.SINGLE. EPISODE. EVERY. SINGLE. FREAKING.EPISODE. That’s also my life from age 2-… wait.. no I’m not going to go off agian about my age right now THANK YOU FUCKING VERY MUCH.
Ok, anyways, that was my little rant. Good read though. I swear. Helps me to believe what my parents have told me my entire life.
White people *are* crazy. **
So, go read it for yourself.
** I’m kidding here. Not all white people are crazy. But … let’s do the math of how many white serial killers you have over korean serial killers shall we? We’re just belligerant drunks who do Karaoke. Oh. And Kim Jung Il doesn’t count, yo. Seriouslly.
