Searching For…

I’m tired of seeing little new scratches on my pretty pretty little laptop so I’m on a quest for the perfect new Powerbook Bag.

Requirements:
Must hold my 12″ Powerbook with panache and security.
Must not look like everyone else’s bag.
Must serve as a purse if I so desire it.
Ideally messenger style or backpack.
Lots of sub pockets for batteries, chargers, etc etc.
And must be shamelessly girly.

I’ve looked through a dozen or so recommendations from friends and scoured through Ebags and Amazon among other sites. My current search/online shopping forrays now include browsing sites for diaperbags.

Yes.

Diaperbags.

Why?
More often then not, they’re lightweight and waterproof, have some sort of padding inclusive (diaper changing pad which can obviously be repurposed to adding extra cussioning for my pretty pretty baby here) and loads and loads and loads of pockets. Plus the shoulder straps tend to be extrapadded for the average gal.

Plus, I can find more of these in pink.

I’ll let you know when I’ve settled on one in particular, though.

i have one of those manhattan portage bags, and i think it works well for smaller laptops like yours

has that hip, urban look too

if you get one, i won’t tell anyone you copied me!

a diaper bag is actually a really good idea - i read in some travel book once that diaper bags are recommended for transporting valuable possessions while traveling, as thieves are generally more interested in your laptop than what they think is a bag full of diapers.

A diaper bag seems like a good idea, but if you’re looking for a more traditional case that I’ve been totally satisfied with, try WaterField Designs. Mine is the size 2 sleevecase with a flap, a suspension shoulder strap, and a piggyback.

I got a hello kitty laptop bag at the mall on market st a few months ago. Pink, stores the beast of burden and all my girly possesions and even room for my sweater.

you so know you want one :)

Get a WaterField Designs SleeveCase. They make one specifically designed for the 12″ PowerBook, and you can stuff it in any bag you want. Splurge and get a shoulder strap for when you want to travel light.

I carry mine in a Timbuk2 PeeWee. Fits perfectly. But that’s not very girly. Unless you get a pink one.

I asked a similar question on my blog a few weeks ago, here’s what people said:

you should definately get a backpack… those suckers get heavy and you don’t want to have back problems later on…. or a twisted spine. =)

I bought a neoprene sleeve for mine at Fry’s - it is made for the Vaio, but for $20, I’ll deal with the logo issue. It fits in almost every purse I need to slide it in to. Although the diaper bag is a good idea too!
