Comcast Offers Presidential Debates ON DEMAND

Wednesday, September 29, 2004

Comcast and C-SPAN are bringing the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, carried by C-SPAN, to viewers on Comcast ON DEMAND.

FYI: As of last week, the entire city of San Francisco now has ON DEMAND available.

“We are partnering with C-SPAN to give our customers a revolutionary way to tune in to the important issues before voters in the 2004 presidential election,” said Comcast Corporation Executive Vice President David L. Cohen. “Our Video on Demand service lets viewers watch major convention speeches and the national debates if they missed them live, or if they want to view them at their convenience. Adding timely C-SPAN content to our VOD service is our latest effort to maximize the value of our products for our customers.”

“C-SPAN is pleased to partner with Comcast to provide viewers with on demand access to the major speeches from this year’s conventions as well as our coverage of the Presidential debates,” said C-SPAN Executive Vice President Rob Kennedy. “By giving viewers these resources, we’re taking advantage of new cable technology to provide a valuable service to the nation.”

The debates will be provided to Comcast Digital Cable customers in markets where VOD is available the day after each debate, and each day’s coverage will be accessible for a two-week period following the date of their delivery. Comcast and C-SPAN provided a similar array of speeches on VOD from the Democratic and Republican conventions.

VOD is available to nearly 60% of Comcast’s 8 million digital cable customers, and is included at no additional charge. This service offers consumers an extensive, diverse and growing library of content with the ability to fast-forward, rewind, pause, stop and restart. Comcast’s VOD library includes approximately 1,800 movies and programs from leading news, entertainment, sports and children’s networks like NBC, CNN, PBS Kids, Nickelodeon, HGTV and E! Comcast also recently signed an agreement that makes convention coverage and other news from ABC News available to Comcast’s 6 million high-speed Internet customers at no additional cost.
