Continued:

Recent discussions reveal my true geekdom.

O. asked the other night, which universe I would prefer to live in.
Starwars, StarTrek, or LOTR.

My answer before reading Empire vs Federation debate?

Oh man, dare I reveal my geekery?

I would, hands down, prefer the Starwars world.
One where people and economics and politics and powerplay are reasonably famliar as my own. Where people are fucked up and dysfunctional and oftentimes swear but are real. Where the force can be revealed in anyone and no genetic predisposition generates skillsets by species driven phenotype ( a la character skill sets in LOTR universe). Technology and guts and the energy of the universe determine destiny in the Starwars universe.

Oh let’s debate, shall we?

The original discussion started out with an inquiry on what type wedding would be the best. In which case I’d guess LOTR as there’d be lots of good food and wine. But then again, them Ewoks can really party. Trekkies? Too involved in behing highly civilized and well behaved and mature and polite to well — get down and boogie and accidentaly talk a friend of the bride’s home to bed with you.

Thunks of your own?

Yeah, well, Betazoid wedding ceremonies require everyone to be naked. That means bride, groom, and guests.

And not every species in the ST world is well behaved or mature. The money grubbing Ferengi don’t mind kidnapping of “females” to have their way with them. One telepathic race was putting members of the TNG crew in a coma with mental rape. Q tried to seduce Captain Janeway into carrying his child. The holographic doctor from Voyager bragged about modifying his program so that he could have sex. There have bee multiple hints at one of the more popular uses of holosuites from DS9, making you wonder who has to clean up that mess.

Sure, the Federation may act stuffy, but you have to consider that being a diplomat requires a certain amount of professionalism.

How can we have a discussion of Star Trek weddings and not mention the friggin’ KLINGONS?!? They’re all the dirt and mess and rage that the nice-nice Federation leaves out, which is why people like to dress up as them, I’d gather.

But I would DIE if I went to an Ewok wedding. I’ll be the first to tie up the droids!
