Fork in the Road

When you come upon the fork in the road, be careful not to get a flat on it.

Also…

Have you ever found yourself too exhausted to continue being sad… but without the energy yet to be happy?

Also…

The big TV has arrived.

Mother of gawd.

If I left the windows open, the people across the street could still watch TV with me.

Playing SSX Tricky on this will give you motion sickness.

Also…

If you’ve ever wanted to one-up someone who otherwise has health, marriage, career, and financial success…give him an inarguable opinion about a book he likes.

Him: “So what do you think of the Davinci Code?”
Moi; “Hmm… oh that…”
Him: “What do you mean?”
Moi: “What… like a dumb down version of Foucoult’s Pendulum. ” (Said while perusing a dinner menu…as if consciously restrainign from saying like duh)
Him: “Uh… who wrote that?”
Moi: “Oh you know… Umberto Eco” (insert duh look here)
Him:” Ok… well… right then… did I tell you that my bonus last year was XXXX times your salary?”
Moi: “Touche.”

***Disclaimer: I’ve not actually read the Davinci Code. And while having tried to read Foucault’s Pendulum 6, nay, 7 times… I can’t say that I’ve been able to do it cogently all the way through in spite of all my attempts.
I certainly get enough out of it to warrant followup attempts on a regular basis. Just like I like to read up on Habakuk and Ruth (as well as Mad Matt, Marky Boi, Lively Luke, and Here’s Johnny) to brush up, touch base, and reconnect to good things in life.

To be fair… all my knowledge of Knights Templar comes from editing my best friend’s novel back in 1990. True. This was a man who decided to get a pHD in medieval warfare. Weee… a reason to think again about trebuchets.

Vote Hotness

My new roommate Jane is running for SF School Board.

Statement Jane offers a progressive vision and a commitment to engaging ideas and a fresh perspective. Jane’s background in community work will ensure the school board becomes more accessible to youth, to parents, and to the community at large.

About JaneJane Kim is the youth program director at the Chinatown Community Development Center, a 27-year-old affordable housing nonprofit that also engages in community organizing, education and planning. For the past four years, she has worked with San Francisco high school students in creating youth-initiated leadership training and community service projects. Previously, Jane was a fellow at Greenlining Institute, a Bay Area nonprofit that improves economic access for disadvantaged communities.

She is also a co-director and co-founder of Locus Arts, a volunteer-run venue in San Francisco that showcases emerging musicians, writers, filmmakers and actors. Jane is on the board of directors for the Asian American Theater Company and the Stanford Asian Pacific American Alumni Club. In addition, she served on the Women’s Foundation’s Community Action Grant Committee and presently is a member of the Full Circle Fund, a group of young leaders engaged in innovative philanthropy.

Outside of work, Jane has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and plays bass guitar. She completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University in Political Science and Asian American Studies.

There are reasons why I call her Hot Jane.

But that’s besides the point.

If you are passionate about youth advocacy, please register and vote.

PS.

Happy Birthday Hot Jane!

Poetica Spontenaium 7/6/04

Single sparrow
sewing flights between clouds
like half tied dreams and memories
patching up weather worn and well loved
summer days from fog and chill
splendid silken soarings and song
like confessions
unanchored from one’s spine
so very unlike the burden of guilt
that is also sometimes truth.
How light the fast beating heart of that bird
How frail, furious, and free.
Rooted to this blacktop,
there is envy in every exhale
And clumsy words with weary weight.

Playing Favorites

From Friendster

You’re our favorite subscriber!

Seriously. I know we here at Friendster shouldn’t play favorites, and our chief operating officer (he’s the old guy in the office) told us not to do this, but seriously, you just totally rock. The way you reconnect with old friends. The way you’ve figured out just how small and interconnected the world really is. The way you discovered people with the same interests as you. We suspect you’ve even gotten a date out of Friendster, or that if you didn’t, you could have if you needed to. Easy. With one of those three suspiciously hot people who keep popping up right above your friends list. For other people, we just use those pictures as cruel, aspirational temptation. But for you, they’re totally getable.
We even made Friendster much faster just for you. But hey – don’t tell anyone we told you all of this. That old guy in the office will just start lecturing us again and pulling out charts and graphs and PowerPoint displays. He’s such a loser.

Thanks,
Your friends at Friendster

I find this impressive considering I put the founder in a headlock a few months past.

Moved IN!

So it’s official and I’m now done. I’m a new SF resident.
Over the weekend I’ve been amok with packing, moving, and unpacking.

Mad props to Delancy Street Movers. They came in right on target with their estimate and were fast, friendly, and very nice. Plus it’s a great program that supports the local community. Support them if you’re considering moving. Or go eat at the shmancy restaurant where I understand the food is awesome and service is exemplary. Some news on them

Delancey Street Foundation
(415) 957-9800

This well-known and widely praised program literally seems almost too good to be true. Visualize this: A full square block of stylish new stucco and tile buildings on San Francisco’s busy Embarcadero, featuring nearly 200 pricey-looking townhouses, well-kept parks, a Town Hall, small businesses and a fancy restaurant with a maitre-d’ standing proudly at the door — staffed entirely by ex-convicts, former drug abusers and formerly homeless people, some 450 of these folks pulling themselves up by the bootstraps through an organization that they run themselves, led by an unpaid staff of exactly one: Co-founder and President/CEO Mimi Silbert

A whole slew of crap that I’ve shlepped cross country and around the bay is now parcelled out in my new digs (the lovely inner richmond where there are a slew of irish bars, boba tea shops, and yummy eateries)

Pardon the quiet spell. I’ll be up and running and reviewing little pops around the neighborhood soon enough.

Been Busy

So I’ve officially moved back to SF proper over the weekend.
I’m mostly settled in and am now in the throes of sorting/shredding/and looking to get rid of things. I have too much crap.

Been busy, I’ll be back to the usual madness soon enough.
