New things and New York

Oh the weather outside is frightful.

Thursday, February 26th, 2004

I spent 4.5 hours in a car yesterday.
Enough time to get damn near close to LA.

Only that time was spent in traffic trying to make it from the east bay to work (3 hours) and then being told to turn around and head back home (1.5 hours).

Why the turn around?

Oh. About 36 inches of rain flooding the alley entrance way for my office.
3 inches made it inside to flood the first floor.
Coworkers had their cars towed off. Operations shut down for the day except for the most minimal of emergency activity for the entire city of San Francisco for my company.

Let me ask you to do this.
Got an appointment with a cable guy?
Be nice to them. In spite of the weather and cold, rain, and gusty winds, those peeps are out, climbing up poles, and running some routes just so you can see your PowerPuff girls.

Hilarity Ensues.

Ok,

So I’m going to Coachella, right? With a couple of peeps.
And unlike other folks, we’re not planning on hoofing it with camping gear. We’re going to get a hotel room. Grand.

So value vs. availability vs. proximity situates us at a nice hotel for about $229/night + taxes. Split 3 ways, shouldn’t be bad.

Should I be freaked out that the hotel I got reservations with is also where Trista and Ryan had their wedding?

Also, if you’re non psycho and would like to be a fourth in joining us peeps in our coachella vip room, let me know.

Ok. I’m biting his style.

Of course Ernie blogged it first.

Mcdonalds and the AzN PrYde site.

Mind you, I wonder if it’s a bit of subliminal joke when you go through the flash screen and you see a pug wearing an “I am Asian” little teeshirt.

And next you see a pair of Asians noshing down on a burger of questionable meat origin.

Whatchoo think they’re trying to say here?

Man, I can’t believe they didn’t sample Erasure for the theme song.

Also, the fact that McDonald’s is linking to a site of “authority” on influential Asian Americans that is in ad banner hell.

So… Asian American is LOUSY 1998 WEB DESIGN and cheesy dubious hip hop. Hand me a hello kitty happy meal. Stat.

Back with a grin.

Had a blast in NYC.
Can’t tell you too much about it, but twas grand.
Will post photos when I get some stuff unpacked etc.

Worked a ugly long day but feel pretty satisfied and prepped for the week.

Best line of the evening at a pal’s bday party. Beers and snark all around.
2 Koreans, 2 Hapas, 2 Chinese. 3 Filipinos.

The two Hapa girls looking at each other.
Hapa 1: “Oh shit, we’re outnumbered. We equal one white person”
Hapa 2: “Quick, Speak REALLY LOUDLY or something!”

Out.

Going to NYC.
Stay out of trouble kittens. I’ll do the same.

Convo with the Kissing Bandit 02.17.04

Tuesday, February 17th, 2004

On the subject of Vday Bitterness.

For our hero, Ze Kissing Bandit, prized pupil of Fifi Le BoomBoom shared the following.

Today, today, I feel both very loved, and very alone.
Tomorrow though, I shall fall in love again.
And the day after that, again too.

And some day soon enough, I shall continue in this habit of falling in love every day. And there will be some lucky person who shall bear witness to me falling in love over and over every single day… with them.

Until then, I kiss strangers until I find one that I like and want to kiss a second time. And perhaps a third. And perhaps even more than that.

I can only respond on say

Lucky.

Indulgences on occasion are quite good for you.
They are opportunities to remind oneself that one is absolutely worthy of marvelous experiences.

Good pleasures, good friends, good times.

Wine, Outstanding eats, Games, Laughter, Excellent Company, Red Dresses, Scotch, Manicures, Pedicures, Sleeping in, Music, Performances, Shopping, Fried Chicken & Waffles, etc.

My darling friend R. was in town. We shared secrets and giggled, laughed and delighted in all that is good in our friendship and our lives. She was my hot V-day date.

I could tell you all about the luscious details, but then you might be jealous.

RAWK

Good Tuesday

So imagine you’re at a local bar. Dimly lit but friendly. They scowl at you just a little when you say you want a scotch and then correct you gently with their selection of Irish. They serve a delightful shepherd’s pie and deliver it with ketchup and steak sauce, without judgement nor explanation. It is good.

And then you get to hear a friend who has the earnest and genuine talent of Colin Haye but in a face familiar and kind like that of a long lost cousin that you’re proud to discover. He sings with a taut sensitivity and self effacing charm.

Meet Goh Nakamura.

And yo, he blogs too.

Bootlegs (lots of ambiant bar noise…but still ok)
Songfile1, Songfile2, Songfile3, Songfile 4

Better soundbites here.
And delight, a spontaneous half time show (no boob flashing) with Dan from Scrabbel notoriety.

Songfile 1, Songfile 2

Hurray.

And then you get to call someone special to say you hope that they have sweet dreams and remembers them. Or gets to tell you a reasonable facsimile of such a sweet dream on the morrow.

Also, my internet connection with Comcast effectively doubled. Hurray. It’s working pretty damn skippy. Just did a speed test and I’m a little bit above 3.0 Mbps.

Today’s a good day.

Catch Goh’s next show on 2/17, 3/9, or 3/30 at Ireland’s 32: 3920 Geary Blvd at 3rd Ave in SF’s Richmond District. 3/19 at Locus Arts

Catch Dan at the hemlock on march 23rd.
He’s got mp3’s here:

MAKE IT STOP!

The latest in international online friendsterlike madness.

I love their tagline. “Get Lucky” 4 leaf clover and all.

So…

Oh wow.. so take the Physical Attraction test,

If you’re a woman of elegance and taste and attracted to men, you may find yourself attracted to Larry.
I had to take the test twice just to make sure I wasn’t going nuts.
How fun is that?
Too bad he’s taken ladies.

If you’re a woman attracted to women, or a man who likes breasts, take the test as if you’re a woman attracted to women. No shit. No less than 10 screens of breast comparisons to see which set you’d consider more tolerable than the other. 10 SCREENS OF BREAST COMPARISONS!
