I was watching the L Word the other night. It’s a great show and if you haven’t watched it yet, hurry fast and do.

One of the most fascinating concepts on the show is the diagrammed documentation of the Lesbian community and who’s slept with whom. Alice, the journalist of utterly resiliant and fluid sexual preferences, is the keeper of the site and has posted her historical reference tool online so that other folks can continue to build on it, link connections, and search the files to find out who’s slept with who and verify sexual orientation when in doubt.

It’s social networking documentation that’s an online reference tool/search function for real life interactions vs what I’ve been most recently fascinated about when it comes to online social networking that ports over to real life interactions/meetups/romance/etc.

Useability/value: High
Could you imagine how much easier it would be to trace an STD?
The center of disease control and the WHO need this. Not just for Lesbians mind ya, but for all peeps.

What I especially liked about it was the visual schema. Extraordinarily similar to Visual Thesaurus.

Well done, Showtime.

This gives me more confidence in things like XFN and tweaks a curiosity for me in FOAF which…as far as I can tell,I have absolutely no friends using.

May I interject a wee privacy concern here? I think we queers have fought to retain a certain degree of anonymity with regard to our sexual histories for some pretty good reasons. I’m not sure I want the government (even the CDC, or a meta-governmental org like WHO) knowing the identities of everyone with whom I’ve knocked, as the saying goes, boots.
