MinJungKim.com Braindump v 6.0 Gah. I’m still doing this?

Startling

Sometimes I amaze even myself.

So I woke up yesterday. After a morning phone call, I tried not carry that mood throughout the rest of the day.(edited because…I tend to say too much) Went to the APE and cast longing looks at cute comic authors while strolling along with the roommate. I’m silly that way. So many nifty little pubs all over the place. One particular sign at one booth which I especially liked said “You don’t have to buy anything…just walk by really slow so I can pick pocket you”. That and the “Bob the Angry Flower” guy were among my my various spontaneous and silly smiles of the day.

At one booth, one of the authors reminded me very much in face & and demeanor as my first boyfriend. That made me grin. Granted, being not so nearly a part of the starving comic community, I had no idea what a Xeric was but apparently them boys won one. Always good to see folks going after their passions.

Jon and I decided to throw a spontaneous dinner party. I think we’ve been inspired re: watching so many episodes of Iron Chef & other competitive culinary events that have recently been on the Food Network. Cooking for folks always makes me feel better and the comfort/cozy/laughter of snarky friends is always a good salve for whatever ails you. Amazingly, a good set of them were actually available on such short notice for a Saturday night. Ernie, Big Mike, Shebehe, Danny, Jen, Paris, Monte, Aaron, Jon & Myself.

On the Menu
Baked Brie (Wrapped in puff pastry, w/ raspberry jam melted in the center & glazed on top)
Spinach salad w/ chopped apples and crumbled blue cheese. Rice wine vinagrette dressing w/ Japanese red pepper.
Scallops wrapped in bacon (easier than one would ever expect)
Fresh Bread baked by Jon. (Soft, crusty, yummy)
Asparagus with a Dijon Mayo sauce made by Jon (blanched to perfection)
Broiled Shortribs w/ a red wine/balsamic vinegar & garlic sauce (Turned out pretty decent for a first attempt)
Golden baked Polenta (Happily yummerific)
Roasted potatos & carrots

And for dessert, Jon made a lovely custard and whip cream confection with fresh sliced mangos. It’s called “Little Yellow Different” for Ernie. Everyone loves that kid, big long time.

We decided to do the dinner party at around 4PM. We got home from grocery shopping at about 4:45.
We had food ready to serve by 7:00PM. Not bad considering we only have two burners and have to share the cooking space.

We built a cozy fire in the fireplace, chilled out, and watched havoc play out with Ernie’s latest obsession Mario Party

After that, I went to bed, exhausted and more at ease. I was astonished that my pillow was still wet from that morning.
